Bhutanese Organic Quinoa Noodles by FINN Food

Quinoa is one of the most complete plant proteins on earth, and Bhutan grows some of the world’s finest. These noodles, made by FINN Food of Thimphu, blend local Bhutanese quinoa flour with wheat flour and pure Himalayan water to create a noodle that is both nutritious and deeply satisfying. The tagline on every packet says it all: “Taste the Tradition.”

The noodles cook in just four to five minutes, holding their shape and a satisfying chew. The flavour is clean, slightly nutty, and gently grassy — a quiet backdrop that lets broths, sauces, and stir-fries shine. They are equally at home in a Bhutanese thukpa, a Japanese-style ramen, a Thai-style soup, or a cold sesame noodle salad.

How to enjoy these quinoa noodles in Bangkok:

  • The Traditional Bhutanese Way (Thukpa): Simmer chicken or vegetable broth with sliced ginger, garlic, and a little tomato. Add cooked FINN quinoa noodles, sliced greens, a soft-boiled egg, and a splash of soy sauce for a warming Himalayan noodle soup.
  • The Bangkok Way: Toss cooked noodles with garlic, chilli, fish sauce, lime, and a little sugar for a quick pad-style noodle dish.
  • The Cold Way: Rinse cooked noodles under cold water, then toss with sesame oil, soy sauce, sliced cucumber, spring onion, and a soft-boiled egg.
  • The Kids Way: Cook briefly, drain, and toss with a little butter and grated parmesan for a fuss-free weeknight meal.

History of Bhutanese Organic Quinoa Noodles FINN Food (100g)

Quinoa is a relative newcomer to Bhutanese agriculture, but one that has taken root quickly. The high-altitude, dry climate of the Bhutanese midlands is well suited to the crop, and a growing number of smallholder farmers are turning to it as a high-value, climate-resilient alternative to rice. FINN Food was founded in 2021 by Sonam, a young Bhutanese entrepreneur with a vision: to build a food company that would both celebrate traditional Bhutanese grains and create meaningful income for the country’s farmers.

Based at the Startup Center in Changzamtog, Thimphu, FINN Food works directly with quinoa farmers in the midlands, sourcing local quinoa flour that is then blended with wheat flour and pure Himalayan water to make noodles. The company’s range also includes Druna Gu cereals, colourful rainbow noodles, and glass noodles. Every packet carries the company’s tagline: “Supporting Bhutan’s carbon-negative future. Product of Bhutan, Land of Happiness.”

Buying FINN Food noodles is a way to support a young Bhutanese food company and a growing network of smallholder quinoa farmers.

How to make Bhutanese Organic Quinoa Noodles FINN Food (100g)?

These noodles cook quickly and forgive a wide range of techniques.

  1. Boil Water: Bring a large pot of water to a rolling boil. Add a pinch of salt if desired.
  2. Cook: Add the noodles and cook for 4 to 5 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking. Taste at 4 minutes for the texture you prefer.
  3. Drain: Drain the noodles and rinse briefly under cold water if using in a cold dish. For hot dishes, drain and add directly to the broth or pan.
  4. Serve: Toss with sauce, broth, or stir-fry vegetables as desired. The noodles hold their shape beautifully and do not turn mushy.

Tip: For an extra nutty flavour, toast the dry noodles briefly in a hot dry pan before boiling. The quinoa aroma intensifies beautifully.
